ABOUT ME
Life before Cancer
Hi, My name is Kat.
Lets go back in time, it's December 2017, I'm 39, happily married to my wonderful husband Dave with two beautiful children Lucy (7) and James (5). I've recently returned to work after a break to raise the children and have just secured a new teaching post for January which I'm very excited about. We're busy enjoying our family Christmas when, on the 28th December 2017, I find a dimple and a lump in my breast.Â
Cue biopsy, diagnosis (primary invasive breast cancer in the breast and lymph nodes), chemotherapy, mastectomy and finally radiotherapy. It's been a hard 8 months, as I knew it would be and now it's over, sort of!
I've made it to the end of active treatment, but the journey doesn't end here. Active treatment may have finished, but life is not the same as it was before. I am trying to make sense of my new life with my new fears, my new side effects and my new body. I am hoping this blog will help me as I continue to adapt and find my "new normal" and maybe, just maybe, it will help some other people along the way.
